This is the time of year when people exchange gifts. You may want to consider getting the people you love, especially children, some gifts that will not only make a fun holiday but will also promote healthy teeth.

You might think that getting a kid a toothbrush or toothpaste may lack a little ‘wow factor”. But remember that toothbrushes today come in fun colors and shapes. You can buy toothbrushes in the shape of superheroes and cartoon characters. Toothpaste comes in all sorts of flavors, including bubble gum and fruit. Just make sure that you look for for the ADA Seal of Acceptance on the products you purchase. Older children and adults may not need a specialty toothbrush, but a new one will always come in handy and may welcome the gift of a powered toothbrush or water flosser as a nice change of pace.

The holidays often mean entertaining a sweet tooth. Why not give the gift of sugarless gum this year, instead of candy? Sugarless gum increases the amount of saliva in your mouth, which is a key component to oral health. If you can’t resist a little candy this time of the year, one of the best things you can give is dark chocolate. Chocolate is easier to remove from your teeth with a toothbrush, and dark chocolate is lower in sugar than milk chocolate, and it contains antioxidants, which are good for your body.
