Are some or all of your teeth missing from your smile? Has it become difficult to eat and speak properly? If you wish to restore the beauty and functionality of your smile, ask Dr. Dennis Burrell about dentures in University Place, Washington. Dentures are removable appliances that replace your missing teeth and tissues and restore your smile. Our office offers two types of dentures: complete and partial.

Complete dentures are used when all of the natural teeth are missing. Complete dentures are either conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are made after any remaining natural teeth are removed and the gums have begun to heal. Conventional dentures are ready to be placed about eight to twelve weeks after the teeth have been extracted. Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be placed as soon as the natural teeth are removed. The patient does not have to go through the healing process without teeth, but the gums and jawbones shrink during the healing process. Because of this, immediate dentures require more adjustments than conventional dentures. Immediate dentures are usually only used as temporary dentures.

Partial dentures are used when some of the natural teeth are still in the upper or lower jaw. Partial dentures are made of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base. This is sometimes secured to the teeth by a metal framework.
